TTS Bali Project Annual Report – 2011

2011 was another eventful year. I can't start reporting on 2011 without saying thank you to our supporters. Bob in Japan with Aurora Bali Project and many other friends and family in Canada, Japan, Australia and other countries have been brilliant! You all know who you are and we sincerely appreciate you! I have to say a very special thank you this year to my brother Grant and sister-in-law Chelyn. They have been loyal supporters of my volunteer life since the very beginning and have been big supporters of TTS Bali Project from the early days when we were still Aurora Bali Project. Grant was the driving force and photographer behind this year's TTS Bali Project Calendar. We raised much needed funds and awareness. Thank you to Grant and to all those that purchased our calendar!

Rudi and Meiling

Hi everyone! We’d like to introduce you to Rudi and Meiling. We are in our fifth year of sponsoring Rudi and Meiling who are both 11 years old and currently in elementary school.

Rudi and Meiling are neighbors in a remote mountain village in North Bali. They are the children of rural farming families. Originally, the goal was for yearly educational sponsorship. This core sponsorship includes fees, uniforms, and books.

We sponsor Rudi and Meiling through the Helen Flavel Foundation. An option for this program is, with the agreement of the family, to have supervised visits if and when in Bali. We first visited about a year into our sponsorship. Up a mountain road by car, and then a 20 minute trek along paths and through terraced rice fields brought us to Rudi’s house. The smile on Rudi’s face as we rounded the corner and met him was as heart-warming as the family’s living conditions were heart-breaking. We visited Rudi and Meiling’s families and hatched a plan to build each family a small house over the next two years.

TTS Bali Project Annual Report – 2010

P1010265

2010 was an eventful year on both a personal and project level. Here we are already into 2011! We'd really like to thank all of you who have supported us to date. From this year, I will be living in Bali! Wahoo! Omid is also zooming along with his Botanical Cuisine workshops and classes. Omid did some awesome fund-raising in 2010 with his Al Fresco Summer Classes in Melbourne, a Botanical Cuisine Potluck and he ran a marathon to raise funds for TTS Bali Project! Omid and I share a common dream of educating and empowering children to a brighter future for themselves and for their families. We both feel that with the continued support of family, and both old and new friends, we can keep moving forward!

Introducing Syd Joseph Bali Director :: TTS Bali Project

Hi! My name is Syd Joseph. I was born and raised in Canada and am a self-professed “career teacher”. I have spent more than 20 years teaching in Canada, Japan and volunteer teaching in other countries. I’m happy to say that I am racking up the teaching hours volunteering in Bali, as well!

Fifteen years of teaching and owning a business in Japan gave me access to Asia; both the fascinating beauty of it and the devastating poverty. I love travelling and meeting people from all over, but Bali is the place that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I have taught, travelled and volunteered, yet the dream was always to do them all at the same time. Now, I’m livin’the dream!
